Managing API Keys

Add your own API keys for AI providers like Perplexity, Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude. Understand key priority, security, and status indicators.

GRRO checks for keys in this order:

  1. Your org key – If you have added your own key for a provider, GRRO uses it

  2. Platform default – If you have not added a key, GRRO uses the platform's shared key (if available for your plan)

  3. Not available – If neither exists, that provider's features are unavailable

Adding your own keys means your usage is not counted against shared platform limits.

Adding a key

  1. Go to Settings > API Keys

  2. Find the provider you want to configure

  3. Click Add Key

  4. Paste your API key

  5. Click Save

GRRO will validate the key against the provider's API before saving. If the key is invalid, you will see an error message.

Key status indicators

  • Connected (green) – Your own key is active and working

  • Platform Default (blue) – Using the platform's shared key

  • Not Connected (gray) – No key available for this provider

Security

Your API keys are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored. The full key is never displayed after saving. You will only see a masked version (e.g., sk-ant-...xxx).

Keys are never shared between organizations.

Removing a key

  1. Go to Settings > API Keys

  2. Find the provider

  3. Click Remove

After removing a key, GRRO will fall back to the platform default if one exists.

Tips

  • You do not need to add your own keys to use GRRO. The platform provides shared keys based on your plan.

  • Adding your own keys is useful if you want higher rate limits, more control over costs, or need to use a specific account.

  • You can also manage API keys through the AI Chat Assistant. Just ask: "What API keys do I have connected?" or "Add my Perplexity key."
